If only....

If only G.W. had listened to Tower of Power in his "youth" instead of accumulating DUIs and snorting that funky white powder, he would know an important fact about the planet's oil supply. And maybe this would help him fight those "terrists" in Iraq -- you know, the ones with the WMDs who greeted us like old friends with flowers and cheers, the ones to whom we are giving the gift of freedom... wait, what is this war about again, (this week)? An LJ moment, dear friends... this is what happens when I settle down with a glass of red wine at 3:30 in the AM and start listening to my "nostalgia" list on iTunes.

"There is only so much oil in the ground,
sooner or later there won't be much around
Tell that to your kids while you're driving 'round downtown
that there's only so much oil in the ground

We can't cut loose without that juice
You can't cut loose without that juice
If we keep on like we're doing
things for sure will not be cool

It's a fact, we just ain't got sufficient fuel
'Cause there's only so much oil in the ground
sooner or later there won't be none around

Alternate sources of power must be found,
cause there's only so much oil in the ground

Yes, there's only so much oil in the earth,
it's a fact of life, for what it's worth

Something every little girl and boy should know from birth,
that there's only so much oil in the earth

There's no excuse for our abuse,
no excuse for our abuse
We just assume that what we use
will not exceed the power supply
Soon enough the world
will watch the well run dry

'Cause there's only so much oil in the ground
sooner or later there won't be none around
You can tell that to your children while you're driving 'round downtown
that there's only so much oil in the ground

And there's only so much oil in the earth
sooner than you think there's gonna be a heavy duty dearth
And there won't be too much time, or a merriment or mirth,
'cause there's only so much oil in the earth

You can't cut loose without that juice
You can't cut loose without that juice
If we keep on like we're doing
things for sure will not be cool
It's a fact, we just ain't got sufficient fuel

There is only so much oil..."

Hey -- you should really be glad that I didn't get all teary on my keyboard over "Stay" by Lisa Loeb (8th grade--all my friends liked it and I got sucked in), or "To Forgive" by the Smashing Pumpkins (10th grade--wasn't real keen on concept of forgiveness at that point in my life, I was happier staying pissed off), or "Why" by Annie Lennox (college heartbreak, 'nuff said--if you don't know the story, you probably don't need to; my life may be an open book, but that chapter is closed), or "Faithfully" by Journey (11th grade--tall flag team, need I say anything more?), or worse, "No More I Love You's" by Annie Lennox (9th-10th grade--tortured song I listened to while daydreaming about Andrew Friedlander leaving his girlfriend for me, and then realizing what he had done and returning to her. *sigh*). Now that I look at it, this is really a tortured teens list... will I ever be a grown up?!

It's so weird to think of myself as a married woman sometimes.... mostly because I still have these bouts of childishness and doubt and angst and all the rest. Not that marriage magically solves these things, but I am for all intents and purposes, an adult, and sometimes, I just don't feel like one... I tried for so many years to be older than I was... now I'm an honest-to-god-or-yahweh-or-allah-or-whoever-slash-no-one adult, and I want to play.

Ok, so this angry political post just took a bizarre turn... I'm going to stop neglecting my wine and get back to whatever it was I was doing...

That, informed readers, is all.
